The partnership between the Institute of Advanced Studies (Inest) of the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU), an institution located in south Florida, was renewed until 2027. The first term of understanding between the two universities was signed in 2016 and ended in 2021. Professor Fabrício Neves, coordinator of the University’s Center for American Studies (CEU), explains that during this period Brazilian professors visited FAU, just as the Institute received a visit from a professor of this university.

“The partnership aims at the exchange of students and professors, allowing for a closer relationship between the two academic cultures and the integration of related areas, such as international relations, political science and sociology”, adds the coordinator. “It is also intended to promote research and the production of academic texts in partnership, as well as the presentation of joint seminars, held in both Brazil and the United States, with professors from both countries. As well as taking professors from Brazil to carry out post-doctoral studies at FAU, and bringing professors from this University to teach regular or extension courses, lectures and post-doctoral studies in Brazil”, he concludes.

According to Prof. Emeritus, the choice of Dr. Vasconcellos’ name was due to his interest in the activities of INEST/UFF, his extensive experience as an executive in American multinational companies, his relational capital and his recognized intellectual competence. “Your suggestions and advice for all of this will benefit the formulation of guidelines and academic policies of the Institute that operates in the area of studies and research focused on the issues of National Defense and the country’s Security in terms of international relations”, he argues.

From this participation in the Council, the director of INEST hopes that relations will grow even further between these two educational institutions. “We hope that through this partnership more research will be carried out among our students and possibly teachers, this is our objective”, concludes Prof. Vágner Camilo.

“Some activities have already begun to be developed involving professors from both universities, such as the production and submission of research work for presentation at a seminar in the United States. Other partnership actions should soon be implemented, such as the exchange of teachers and students from both institutions to teach and attend extension courses created at both universities”, adds the CEU coordinator, Prof. Dr. Fabrício Neves.
